At the heart of the Cathedral School, is a large natural lagoon which has historically retained its significance as the schools key public space.
The school celebrated its Foundation Centenary in 2017 and The Connection | Place was constructed as an integral part of the celebrations.
The project is set around the display of the names of all students and staff who have attended the school within the founding years. Positioned at one end of the Lagoon under the canopy of a significant Rain Tree, it consists of a platform set at water level, projecting into the Lagoon on one side, so that people can experience direct association with the water. Fixed furniture has been incorporated to encourage occupancy. The names have been recorded in a glass scrim that defines the outer perimeter of the space.
The project has been named with reference to the Past Student Association newsletter, “The Connection”.
