This residence is located on Castle Hill in Townsville on a sloping site within a new subdivision. Views from the land are expansive but predominantly to the west. The house has been arranged over three levels, with cars at the street level, bedrooms to the next level and living areas to the top level. The stacking of these spaces provides a north facing terrace adjacent to the top living level.
An operable screen is utilized to the western wall. This screen can be completely opened to provide a covered verandah scenario, and when the sun begins to infiltrate the space can be completely closed to divert focus back toward the terrace. The detailed design of this screen explores ideas of transparency, translucency and opacity.
